Can anyone give me the history of the column shift? I was told CJ-2 not 2a, and so on. Years produced, etc? Also can the guts from the t90-a1 be used in a t90? My uncle just bought one at a farm auction for parts not knowing it was a column shift, and were trying to get info on it.

    Thanks in advance

At a military show I saw what I thought was an MB, but it had column shift. The owner took the time to show it to me and explained that it was the last of the production at the end of the war. Was called an M3000. Most of them were shipped to Russia. Have never seen another one.
The column shift was a left-over from the Americar.
The first of the 4WD trucks were column shift.

    Tommy,

i hate to say it but jeep never made anything called the m3000. Some of the very early cj2's where column shift and basically just a mb with brass Jeep name plates on the hood and windshield frame. The willys MA was also column shift, but that was the prototype before the mb and very rare and $$$$$$

I attended the WW2 weekend at the Reading Airport several years ago and saw a military model with column shift. I spoke with the owner and questioned the configuration.
He had owned it for many years. It was an MB model, definitely military, with column shift.
Had data plates, hand holds, basically everything military.
Either somebody spent years creating this, or it is the real thing.
As he told me, they were made at the end of the war, and most of them were sent to Russia, never to be seen again.

My guess would be it had a cj2a coulmn shift tranny in it, not stock and not produced by willys that way. A lot of the willys MA's did get sent to russia. You can also go to http://www.willys-overland.com/ for some great info on early cj2's
