OK i have not had time to start my CJ5 for about 6months, I went to start it today and I can get it to turn over for about 30 seconds when i dump fuel in the carb but i never seem to get any pickup from the fuel pump, I looked down the carb and pumped fuel but did not seem to see anay fuel going in. Is there away to prime the fuel pump? any ideas?

If you have a compressor you can apply a low amount of pressure to tank and prime the fuel pump.
best way i have found is take the fuel line off at the pump inlet,

then blow air in filler hole and fuel should come out line at pump.
    Note not to much pressure.
Use a rag around the tank inlet to help seal the hose.
your fuel pump maybe dried up and or bad.

I have an old Black and Decker "Jackrabbit Pump".
Put it in the line between the tank and the pump, just short of the pump, crank like crazy, and soon you will have gas up to the carb.
At this time, you can start the Jeep. Leave the pump in line while testing. Remove pump, hook up line.
If vehicle starts, fuel pump is ok. The operation fills the line between the tank and pump.
If the vehicle does not start with the line full of gas, then there is a pump problem.
Don't know if the Jackrabbit pump is still available.
Don't use a drill-mounted pump. A spark could cause some problems, namely "FIRE".

You sure there's fuel in the tank?

    Is a jackrabbit pump a hand-operated pump?

I've never heard of a mechanical fuel pump not being able to pull fuel from the tank, unless the pump is broken or the line is plugged.

You can do a simple test - go in your garage when it's quiet and blow gently into the line going to the fuel pump. You should be able to hear bubbling in the tank if there's fuel and if there's no obstruction. You can use a piece of fuel hose to connect the inlet from the pump into a can of gas above the pump (sitting on the cowl or something) and see if the pump will pull fuel from it. If the engine starts then, you can do the jelly jar test to see how much volume the pump can pump.

BTW a 10' length of 3/8" fuel hose is a handy thing to carry with you.

The jackrabbit pump is a hand-operated pump, which can also be used as a sprayer, nozzle included with kit.
This item was made by/for Black and Decker, and during the '80's was sold at K-Mart stores.
I find it useful for filling/draining transmissions, rear axles. Limited only by the length of hose attached to suction side and the ability to crank and crank.
Was able to buy one at a Black and Decker outlet store about 8 years ago. Don't know whether they are available anymore.

Pictures of the actual carburetor body would help and a casting number from the engine/intake too.

Blue smoke indicates oil burning. Could be just a result of not running it for a while, or something more serious. Run it a while and see if it doesnt clear up before getting too concerned about it.
