I have had the top off my 2G so many times recently to attempt(unsuccessfully) to fix my flooding problem I have torn the gasket between the bowl and the top. Can I order just that gasket and if so where? I could always get another rebuild kit but I would rather not if I can help it.

Geeze, I've never heard of a single carb gasket being available, I've always gotten mine in a kit where I ended up throwing away a lot of parts that were for other applications.

If you have the patience (and a teeny-tiny ball-pein hammer) you can make any gasket out of gasket paper that any FLAPS should have on the shelf. With intricate gaskets like your carb bowl, I've found it helpful to use a little artist's dry-mount adhesive on the paper to stick it to the housing. Once the paper is in place, tap it ever so gently against the edges of the housing to cut the paper, and trim it up mice and clean where needed with an X-acto knife.

It takes a little time, and it might take a couple of tries to get it right but you'll get a gasket that fits every time, for pennies.

    Here's another approach:

I have made many a gasket in the past but never one so intricate and delicate. Man, I have some patience but I might use it all up on one gasket :). I had this thought but thought I would ask the question anyway.

The damaged gasket I have now found was the root of all my carb problems. I have actually put the carb back together without the gasket and it runs like it should. When I readjusted my float after the rebuild I damaged the first gasket. My kit had the marine version and I trimmed this to fit but I think my trim job was slightly off and when the float moved a little front to back it got hung up on the gasket.

I think I will post a wanted in the classifieds. Maybe someone has an extra.

PS great tutorial on gasket making. I wonder if Sparky could start a misc. link page that could gather a bunch of these.

Update. I had some gasket material that was the correct thickness so I gave it a try tonight. I took the gasket, carefully fit it back together and used clear packing tape and stuck it down to the gasket material. I then cut the outside first leaving small amounts of material and tape on the outside at various locations to keep things from moving. I used a good pair of scissors to do the outside. I then used a regular utility knife with a new blade and slowly and carefully cut out the interior. I have not fit it yet on the carb but I think it looks pretty good. I will try to take some pics and post this simple method.

Used to make gaskets from cereal boxes. They worked, but probably were not the right stuff.

However, when you are broke, you use what you have available.:coffee:
