Where do the heater cables connect to?

After the earlier thread about the heater controls on a 73 I took a look at mine.

My blower works fine but none of the control cables are hooked up.

There are obviously 3 cables, but I can only see where two hook up.

    1) The Defroster control arm to the very left (Drivers) side of the heater assembly.

    2) Unsure what it does (maybe heat level) control to the far lower right.
    Mine seems to be jammed.

    3) I don't see anywhere for a third control to go.

    Control Panel
    AIR, DEFROST, HEAT, (Fan)

I can't find a diagram to tell me which is where the AIR and HEAT cables connect to.
    Can someone tell me?
    Thanks

I had the same problem when i first got my jeep. The air cable goes up towards the top of behind the dash and connects to a little lever. The defroster cable hooks to the box that's kinda centered under the dash, and hooks to another lever that controls a door to change airflow. The Temp cable goes to the extreme right (passenger side) of the jeep, and hooks to another one of those levers. Good luck getting the air cable hooked up. I haven't been able to figure out how to hook up mine, let alone you can't see worth anything where it connects. Good luck!

    Max,
Thanks. I'm still puzzled by the "Air" Cable. Are you saying it connects between the heater box and the firewall, or behind the dash somewhere?
    Thanks!

My Jeep is not here, so I can't crawl under the dash and confirm, but my impression was that the "Air" cable hooked up to the airbox under the cowl vent to let in fresh air.

The air control connects to the flapper arm that opens the cowl vent, It's not on the heater box its to the right of center on the underside of the cowl vent. The defrost control is right on the heater box in front and the temp control is all the way up on the right of the heater box. You can see where the cable sheath attaches on all of the controls, just follow up for the lever that the cable attaches to. Your just going to have to get under the dash with a light and look.

    Thanks guys.
Yes, I've looked under there and seen both "levers" on the heater.
My cables have never been connected so I wanted to make sure I was on the right track.

What threw me off was the "Air" control. I could only find two levers on the heater and had three controls.
But I now see that "Air" never connected to the heater box, it connects the cowl vent, which I don't have on my PO installed glass body.

I believe that answers my question. Thanks guys!
