Would someone please describe to me or (better) show me a picture of where the temperature sender is on a 304?

I found out today that when you remove the temperature sender (to replace it with a new one) you can expect a fountain of antifreeze to shoot up about six inches!

I have also come to the conclusion that the PO(s) of my jeep have buggered up the wiring to the point that I will eventually need to just strip it out and start over with a new wiring harness. Sounds like a good project for this winter.

I have replaced the speedometer (old one had a broken needle) with a brand new one, along with new temperature and fuel gauges. I connected the wires just the way the PO had them, but the temp and fuel gauges still don't work. Taking a flashlight to the rear of the jeep, I discovered that the ground wire of the fuel sending unit isn't connected to anything (it's just laying on top of the tank). I also discovered that the return spout of the fuel sender also isn't connected to anything, which explains why I have fuel leaking whenever I fill up the tank. WTH are people thinking when they do this stuff? Anyway, I have a new fuel tank, sending unit, filler hose, and vent hose sitting in my basement, ready to install. I believe I will just run a new wire from the fuel gauge to the sending unit when I install the new tank, that way I *know* it will be correct. Same thing for the temperature gauge.

I love my Jeep, I really do. It gives me a great feeling to drive it, and every other Jeep driver I pass gives me a wave or a thumbs up. I just get frustrated with the half assed way some people "fix" things. Do it right, or pay someone else to do it right.

I do want to give props to George at George's Jeep Parts. http://www.willys.net/index.html He had the bracket I needed to install the correct power steering pump, and he also had the hard to find nipple kit to connect the vent hose to the fuel filler hose. Everyone on the net seems to have "accessories" for Jeeps, but George has the hard to find parts that actually keep these old Jeeps running and on the road.
