I was wondering if anyone has blasted their tub/fenders/grill/hood etc. by themselves. If so, what types of medai did you use? I am looking to strip mine down to at least the original primer if not bare metal and would like to do so without warping the sheet metal.

Yes, I sandblasted mine recently. It was a lot of work, but the price of having it done by a blasting shop would have been prohibitive compared to my time and materails. In my opinion, if you have a badly rusted tub there is no better way to get it clean enough to prep for paint. If you avoid getting too close with the nozzle, and keep the pressure down to a reasonable level (I used 80 psi), warping is not a problem. End of the Pros.

Cons here: I already had a professional quality 100 pound capacity pressure pot sandblaster unit, and the high capacity air compressor to run it. If you price the equipment, it will cost you 2-3 times what a blasting shop will charge. I bought the equipment years prior when I was trying to make a living with a mobile welding service.
Another caution: safety. Don't try to do this without the personal safety equipment to avoid inhaling silica dust. It never comes back out of your lungs.
Another caution: your neighbors will hate you, your wife will hate you, even your dog will hate you for the noise and the dust mess.

I sent all the blasting out. Hint around Christmas time is good, usually the blasters are slow and willing to make a deal.
