I have a loose steering box. By loose, I don't mean externally. There is a lot of play inside the box. I'm not sure what box it is, however, it does have a Ford logo molded into the casting. It sits forward of the front axle. It has three mounting bolts.

My question is, can they be rebuilt, adjusted, or am I looking at replacement? I can take a few pictures if that will help.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Bill, snap a few pics tonight... I'm sure the guys here can readily ID it from pics.

Once it is identified... look into

    http://www.larescorp.com/

Advance Auto can usually order these with the Lares P/N.

Don's rig is running a Lares rebuilt box.

If it's not leaking, I'd try to adjust if before I took it apart.

It's definitely Ford. If you can find a Ford truck manual for the late 60s through the 70s online or in a book store somewhere, it'll be covered. I had a set of '72 manuals long ago, but they are gone now. The adjustments go just like the Saginaw - you need to adjust the worm shaft end play before you adjust the gear mesh. The book specifies an in-lb torque wrench, but I've adjusted them with a 1/4" flex handle and a fish scale.
