on my 60 f-head somebody bypassed the original oil filtration system. would that cause engine to smoke? due to increased pressure and plugged lines.

The engine I'm working on had the oil line hole below the fuel pump and on top of the timing gear cover blocked off. The engine was off an early Willys truck or wagon. I'm not sure about the original filter setup but when I got it it had no filtering system.

It ran fine and I ended up putting a canister filter on it. No noticeable difference except now my oil stays allot cleaner:)

I'm not sure if it was bypassed or not. trying to rule out as mutch as possible before having to tear down. I bought the cj cheap, now I will deal with the butcher job mods.

The butcher job mods will nickel and dime you if you are picky like me. I can't even stand putting a dirty or unpainted part back on. I try not to rig stuff but sometimes you have to let it go.

    Short answer- no.

The stock oil filter setup (actually it was optional back in the early CJ2 days) is not a full flow system, only some of the oil circulating through the galleries goes to the filter. If anything a bypass would actually lower the pressure as the stock filter setup incorporates a flow restricter to keep system pressure up. If the filter was removed a better idea would be to block off the feed & return ports on the block & timing pan.
