When I did the saginaw conversion on my Wills 3-B I ran into a simular problem. I ended up chucking the long tie rod into a metal lathe and dressed the unthreaded part of the rod true, then turned more of the 11/16 left hand threads onto the rod. Then the last step was to cut off the original threads and dress the end out to provide a smooth chamfer for starting the companion piece onto it. Worked out well for me,maybe something like this could work for you?

Yeah OzFin, I was kind of thinkng along those lines, except I don't have access to the machinery.
I've learned that a intermediate and later CJ5 and 7 have the PS gear mounted at a bit of and angle relative to the frame rail. It is much more pronounced than on the Commando. Also, the pitman arm for the CJ's has the 4 index splines one tooth clockwise of centerline between the two holes if that makes sense. It would seem I need one where the index splines are lined up with the centerline. That way the pitman arm would be parallel with the frame rail when centered.
Any idea where to find such a beast?
