E-Brake Assembly Question

    If you go with the hydraulic-type lock, just remember there are two kinds:

    1. The line-lock type that needs to have 12v applied to the unit in order to hold. These are typically used for drag racing and only for a few seconds at a time. Left engaged it will kil your battery overnight and the Jeep rolls away. :shock:

    2. The Mico-Lock type mentioned earlier, this type has both an electrical connection AND a check-valve arrangement. You apply the 12v to it, and press the brake. This sets the lock and even if you remove the 12v it will still hold, provided your hydraulic system doesn't leak down. To release the lock you remove the 12v supply and apply greater pressure to the brakes than you did when you set it, this releases the check-valve and allows normal braking. These are normally found in tow trucks, vehicles with winches, etc.

    FWIW- Neither unit is DOT-approved for use as a parking brake because it relies on the service brakes in order to work. AFAIK these units will not pass any state inspection for that reason...
