so i installed my new 12v sending unit and fuel gauge and it seems to only partially work. most of the time it jumps to full or it will jump around a lot. anyone heard of this before? are these (i believe Crown makes them) gauges junk? i know mine isn't grounding out or anything.

maybe there's a certain direction the sending unit has to go in? or am I looking too deep into a junky product?

    thanks,
    evan

I don't have a fuel guage in mine but my buddies cj3 does and the guage jumps around like crazy when the fuel sloshes around. If it just sits still on flat ground it reads fine. Does yours jump around when sitting still?

You have a meter? Check the resistance reading for the sender. It should change smoothly from full to empty.

You also need to check your grounds (intermittent operation should always suggest a grounding problem. The grounds go through the body and frame, and that's especially troublesome on old vehicles). I presume the gauge has never worked? I would test the ground from the sender/tank to the body first.
