Well I don't profess to be a mechaic and don't think I'm good enough to be... But, I'll check with the local supply house, maybe Grainger or Mesa Equipment

    And I'll tell em it's a 1971 Dodge PU R) So far the Jeeps been an 80 Chevy, a 72 CJ5, a tractor, a hot rod, a 76 GMC... R)

Assuming the light actually works going across the battery terminals then yeah, bad coil :(

I'd try the flame thrower otherwise while yer'at'da FLAPS buying a new one grab a meter too

Yep, it did going across the posts, worked well and bright. I hooked it up in different places.
What I don't get is when I touch the positive wire to the coil it sparks up a little bit but then the light proves nothing

I'm swinging by Grainger after school (on the way home) then down to NeverAnyPartsAvaible to get the resistor to be home in time for the mechanic, but I'll offer to pay him for his time if he looks at the wires to hopefully help start it

I just want this thing to work finally, and not leak :(

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-

    Either

    a) try disconnecting the black wire from the distributer to the coil - terminal then check again with the light from the coil - terminal to ground,

    or

    b) leave the black wire on & put the light across the coil + & - terminals

If it lights up then your module has a short in it.

If the light still doesn't come on then a bad coil for sure, the spark in this case would be caused by capacitance between the coil windings on ether side of the break.
