HEI Installation

    Has anyone ever had to grind the bottom lip of the distributor cap when they installed HEI in order for it to clear the manifold bolt and manifold. I have installed a new button head bolt in the manifold and have ground down the manifold but the cap still hits and won't seat properly. I was trying to avoid grinding more on the manifold. So, has anyone had to grind the cap? Thanks.

    since 1996 when i put my hei in i'd been taking a dremel tool and grinding my caps for clearence.this last winter when i rebuilt my heads i finally got out the grinder and took a little more off the intake for clearence, now i don't have to carry an extra ground cap on my hunting trips. i also feel better not having the cap so close to touching the intake.
