Just wondering if anyone has pictures of how they built their cage around their dashboard. Is there a way to keep the dash pad and make it look ok? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I saw this somewhere before...May have been pirate forum, but they had to axe the dash pad, which is unfortunate

You can build a cage without a front cross bar. Maybe think about a bar across the width under the floor? Or else make the lateral reinforcement stronger higher up in the cage?

Dave and I chatted for a bit after I posted that thread above, he mentioned that someone was working on fitting it with the dash pad (with slight modification of course).

I would give up the dash pad to keep the window cranks..

I saw another guy who used a hole saw to cut his dash pad and dash, it looked pretty good and kept the tube away from all that junk.
Ill see if I can find the pics.

I hope im not being rude, but that is one ugly roll cage. I mean I dont think I could live with myself if I put that piece of angle iron in my vehicle. I hope that the onwner of that doenst see this and take offense. Wow, and Im suprised no one has used some sheet metal yet to wrap around the roll bars and make something really custom. And I dont think the dash pad really adds alot to the vehicle, I really like the ruggfed look without it. The big thing I was curious to see was if anyone had actually cut into the dash for some reason.

That's why I like the roll bar only.

Wow, that looks awesome! Would anyone by chance know the length and height of a commando dash. The only reason Im asking is because Im in the process of putting a commando front end on my CJ7 and would like to put the dash in as well, with cj gauges of course.

I don't know about earlier Commandos but in the bull nose the dash is welded to the body.
