    '74 CJ5 with D44 front axle out of a '78 Waggy

both of my callipers will not "retract" after using the brakes

    what could cause this?

callipers and brake shoes are less than 6mo old

    Recent brake history:

had new lines made about 6-8 months ago at rapid brake

YJ booster installed memorial day weekend

i had one pistion sticking and i replaced both callipers with new callipers in Feb/March (less than 5k mi ago but before the YJ booster was installed)

    new shoes with callipers

rotors are about 10k mi old

brake fluid is clean... flushed when YJ booster was installed

residual pressure valve sticking maybe? could have some dirt in it from the flushing/install of the booster.

hey, post up details on that YJ booster install. I need to do that on mine one of these days....

I had that issue w/ my 6...it was caused by the line lock I had put in. Leads me to believe that Packrat2a probably is onto the issue if all your other components are new. So all the rubber hoses are new?

Did you swap the proportioning valve for one designed for front disk brakes? I think the residual valve(s) for the drum brakes are in the proportioning valve.

    :iagree:

IIRC only the drum brakes need a residual valve - disks should withdraw on their own due to the motion of the rotor. There's not much clearance between the rotor and the pad in normal operation, and the pull-back is entirely passive, again IIRC.

Some master cylinders have a removable residual valve too. IIRC it's located under the tubing connection seat. Are you using the original master cylinder?
