To pick up where we left off yesterday, what would be a reasonable mpg expectation for a stock '73 CJ5 with 232, 3 speed, and regular size tires? Also, is the driveability better on this vintage better than my stock '71?

I am considering trading up and would like to know what to expect.

    Please advise.

Why not drive it and find out? The obvious differences are improved brakes and steering, and longer wheelbase. I also believe that the '72-on Jeeps drive better because of changes in the front suspension geometry, and the more rigid mounting of the front springs due to the redesigned front cross member. In my experience, yes, they drive better than the unmodified earlier model CJ-5.

Thanks for the info. I can't drive because it's 200 miles away.

Any idea about the fuel use?

I remember a friend bragging that he got 20 mpg with his then new 72 Cj-5 with 232 and 3.73 gears. That was years ago and also with non ethanol gas. Our driving here is mostly short runs.
