I am trying to remove the rear drive shaft in the '65. I am having a bit of trouble removing the side connected to the transfer case.

My FSM shows a Flange Yoke with four bolts holding the shaft. I was able to remove the nuts from three of the bolts but the fourth bolt justs spins (Murphy's Law at work). What are my options? Can I cut the bolt? If I cut the bolt, how do I fix it afterwards?

The FSM shows a Rear Companion Flange under a nut and washer, are these bolts pressed into the rear companion flange?

    TIA

the bolts are held in place by the parking brake. I had to split 2 nuts when i rebuilt the transfer case a few years ago. replaced the bolts with grade 8's withthe heads trimmed to fit in the slot in the drum.

The head of the bolts holds them from turning, the head jams up agains a flat on the backside of the flange. You can usually reach a finger in through one of the holes in the drum to hold the bolt flat against the flange, that will hold it so you can get the nut off.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to chisel the bolt off and replace it.

If I understand whats going on correctly (and I might not be) I have had luck putting a small wrench or screwdriver under the nut and prying it away from the housing at the same time I am turning the nut with a socket. HTH
