Okay so fianlly started on the Jeeps ...

Cleaned out the Red one ....

Specs Red (Mid to Late '67 - Origonally Spruce Tip Green)
    V6 - 225 Odd Fire ('67) - Burnt Valve Needs Rebuild
    T86 - T86AA Case
    D18 - Offset Output
    D44 - 3.73 Gears and a limited slip tag
    D27 - 3.73 Gears
    Dual Master Cylinder

Started playing with the gray one today. Opened the valve covers, pulled spark plugs and oiled cylinders and valve train. Changed the dist cap to even fire to match the pickups in the dist. Turned engine by hand and found top dead center on #1 and then tryed the ignition key. Starter motor spun the enginethrough and all sounds okay. Now the spark plugs are back in and tomorrow will try to fire it up. all around if it runs!

Specs Gray (Late Oct of '65 Vin Number - Origonally Empire Blue - Blue Vinyl)
    V6 - Buick 231 (casting number matches 1977-78 w/ HEI distributor
    T-14 -
    D20 - Center Output
D44 - Center with one piece axles
    D27 -
    Single Master Cylinder

Now I will need to make a desicion on which way to go. Thought is to use the body and frame off of the red Jeep, it has the better master cylinder and looks cleaner. Then pull the motor and drive train out of the gray jeep.

Specs Red new Build ---- Color, thinking going to empire blue
    V6 - Buick 231 (casting number matches 1977-78 w/ HEI distributor
    T-14 -
    D20 - Center Output
D44 - Center with one piece axles
    D27 -
    Dual Master Cylinder

Can you use the heavy flywheel with an even fire 231? Which motor has the most low end torgue? What are the HP difference between the 225 and 231?

You cannot use the flywheel without having it balanced to the 231 engine.
The 225 will have the best low end grunt by far.
The Hp would probably go to the 225 simply because of the era it was built, higher compression, less pollution controls and all. The hp wouldn't be much different when you started taking the 160 gross hp of the 225 and converting it to net hp, it would probably have around 120-135, compared to the 231 having around 110-120. Plus no matter what you do the 231 if its an even fire will never sound like the 225 or have its distinct rumble.

I agree with McRuff, but nothing wrong with a good running JEEP for cheap, either. I always seem to develop love-hate relationships with money pits, whereas the projects that you can get out on the road right away and still leave money in your wallet tend to provide me with more instant gratifcation. The T-14 is fully synchronized, too.

The Dauntless is just plain a treat to own/operate, though.
