I was looking to convert the rear to discs...found this kit...

    http://www.tsmmfg.com/2580.htm

only it states for full float rear. So I did some research on semifloat which I think I have versus full float. I understand FF is superior in strength but is it worth the cost to upgrade if I a m not planning on any major offroading? Also, I looked on the tech pages here to get some info. I know they warn kit is disontinued and to roll your own looks complicated, needing a machine shop etc... I see HERM has a kit but it seems pricey. Right now my jeep is completely down to the frame and I am building it up, I woul like to build it up strong and not have to worry about it in the future. So to converrt to full float or not? Opinions form all with experience is greatly appreciated since I am new to the 4 wheeling scence. Thanks, Paul from NC 57 willys CJ5 with 283 engine, T90 Dana 18 warn overdive

Looks to me like PN 2580 fits the stock semi float and PN 2580W fits the full float.

If you are not planning lockers, big tires, low gears and nasty trails, then full float is probably not necessary. It is handy if you are planning on flat towing it though. I sure like mine for that purpose.

I went FF for the Lockers. It also helps with strength, and depending on how heavey your foot is, it might be worth a look due to the 283... I also believe that it helps if you end up with more than @ 60:1 crawl ratios.

Right, there are 2 kits, one for FF and another for semifloat. Doing some more reading it looks like full float converrsion would be the way to go. I see Herm has a kit. I am waiting for a reply to see if it is complete (pricy???). Warn has been discontinued and the roll your own seemed more complicated. Any other suggestions? Is the kit from about the average price to convert? Thanks, Paul

    here was my experience.
I drove it with factory 2 piece until I broke 2 axles (over time).
One of the replacment axles broke right away, within 2 months if I recall. That's when I found out Dana wasn't making the axles anymore, everything was off shore, imported junk.
I went FF because the axles are quality USA, and no more wheel come off if axle breaks. ( The 4 Wheel Parts FF kit is no longer made).
I believe your 4 wheels are the most important thing to keep on the Jeep; whatever else happens, you still will be able to drive/pull/roll/flat tow it home.
That's hard to do when your Jeep is a tri-pod.
I would ask Herm who the maker of his axles is.
