Well just picked up a 47 cj2a and still have a buick 225 and sm465 I want to run.

So 71 cj5 frame or original cj2a frame?

I know the 5 would be a little stronger but would like to keep it looking original from the outside. So for you that are running a 2a frame with the 225 how is it holding up?

    Thanks :)

FYI - there's an article on the CJ-3B page about using a CJ-5 frame with a flat fender.

    I'd consider -
    Condition of the two frames?
Could I weld well enough to modify the CJ-5 frame to fit?
Is the CJ-5 frame already set up for a V6?

From the above article. the CJ-5 frame will fit exactly if shortened a few inches at the rear.

Both frames are in good shape as far as I can tell on the 2a
    Welding is not a problem
Yes it is set up with a v6 (drive train is all still on it)

I helped Jeepfreak81 build his flatty which is a 2a on a 5 frame with a v6 so I know what is involved just wondered if it is worth a little bit of work to keep the 2a frame for originality sake?

With the info you've given I'd probable swap to the 5 frame

JMO - if you do it right, very few people will be able to tell that it's a CJ-5 frame and not a 2A frame. You're already disposing of originality by swapping in the V6. It would not be an issue to me.

The only problem I'd see is, if you used CJ front springs, they'll be longer than the original rear flatty springs. I'd look into finding some springs for the rear with added length, and an offset center hole, to better match the fronts.

my frame is hodling up just fine.
there should be some factory strapping on the top of the 2A frame.

This is a good question. I have the same predicament. I'm boxing the frame on my 2A. I don't have a CJ5 frame to choose from. Will a boxed 2A frame be able to withstand a 4.3 V6 and a SM465?

A non-boxed frame is holding up to my warm 225 SM465 combo just fine. Don't have plans to box it either.
