I have been working on restoring a 72 cj 5, everything has been rebuilt. Drove it for about a mile shifting through the gears and now it will no longer disengage. We have tried readjusting the clutch, do you have any idea where it may be getting stuck or any other suggestions?

the jeep has been converted to linkage. Also another note, when rebuilding it I painted the flywheel with blue engine paint. Could this be causing it to stick?

Does it still have the cable clutch setup or has it been converted to linkage?

On a '72, when the cable wears out, the pedal will become very hard to move. Many of the '72s were converted to the '73-on bellcrank with a kit under warranty, because the cable was so troublesome.

Cable or bellcrank? Pedal hard or not? How much free play?

When I had the cable , in my '72, the cable would get hung up on the firewall behind the clutch pedal, and wouldn't let the clutch disengage. The bracket holding the cable had broken away, at the top, from the firewall.
