I have an opportunity to buy this cheap. I was wondering what year y'all think it is. It seems to have a centered Dana 44. The seller says it is a CJ5.

A few more picts would be helpful. Was the frame rails straight like a ladder or did they come in at the front of the firewall so the frame is narrower in the front than the rear.

It's got a SOA lift on it. And the front looks like a CJ. But he rear axle is not an amc20. Did you measure the wheelbase?

    I'm guessing an intermed. cj5.

'72-75. Dana 44 rear, open 30 front, Saginaw, big front crossmember.

No no no ... cancel that. Spring over. Rear axle has been replaced. Wide springs usually means'76 on... hard to see the frame - I'd guess it widens toward the rear, and those could be wide-track axles or? The front doesn't look terribly wide though. Does the frame widen toward the rear, and the rear of the frame is boxed?

It could only be a CJ-5 or a CJ-7 ... easiest way to tell the two apart with the body off would be the length of the rear driveshaft.

this is all the info I have right now. seller says frame is "boxed". he is not a Jeep guy, so I will have to travel to see it. Is this, IYHO, worth about $150?

I'd say for 150 it's worth it. Can he tell if the front axle has disc or drum brakes on it?

If so, the front axle is post 77 more than liekly.

    Rear looks like a D44.

From what I can tell, but mostly guessing here, and didn't want to put this in the frist post, is it's a post 76 frame, guessing a cj7, with D44, D30 axles. Assuming the axles are orgional to the frame, I'd say it's an '86 cj7 frame.

Does he have a title for it? The number should be stamped on the frame rail above the rear passanger side tire.

Looks like intermediate CJ5 to me. Look at shackle hangers. They're the triangular fabrication, not the strap steel with a looped end. Rear axle u-bolt spacing from left to right looks pretty narrow so I'm guessing straight ladder frame. Spring plates were flipped for SOA but the shock studs weren't moved so shocks are at goofy angles. It does look like wider springs but shackle hangers look narrow. Maybe the owner simply stacked washers between shackle hanger and shackle, no idea what they did to the spring hangers, though. I"m not even sure they're wider springs. Front brakes look like drums so would that indicate narrow-track axles? Sure looks like intermediate with SOA and can be confirmed with spring width. I'd say it's worth every bit of $150 if you can use it.

it looks like it has an autobox in it, might indicate a CJ7, but I agree about the shackle hangers. I gues I should truck out and take a look.
