hi i just bought a 1969 cj5, it has an odd fire dauntless v6, dana 44 rear, dana 30 front with lockers, not sure on tranny but it is 4spd and has 3 other shifters 1 big and 2 small. not sure what the other 3 are and not sure on the shift pattern. also came with a ramsey 8000lb worm drive winch. and has an extra fuel tank tucked up inside the frame in back.

question is what are the 3 other shifters for? and it looks like it has about a 2-2.5 inch rancho lift with 33/12.5 bfg mt tires. should i replace lift with a skyjacker 4inch or just leave it alone.
FYI i found registration papers and patches inside the glove box from the 1989 Sierra Trek. i imagin it is well equipped but want to make sure.
BTW sry im so long winded
i asked the guy how much he wanted for the jeep and he told me "you think $1200 is fair?" i ran to the bank and came back leaving with title in hand. any help would be great

    Welcome from Hayden ID.
    Pics are always helpful here.
You have an overdrive that is the extra larger? stick.
The other 2 are twinsticks for the dana 18 tcase..

Where is reverse that will tell alot about which tranny it is.

Use the search feature alot it has most answers you need.

Might have seen or know your jeep being so close.
So a few pics hint hint would be good.:)

Sounds like a sm420 chevy tranny good stuff.

Let us know what swabby says.

I would change all the oils to make sure before driving much. IMHO.

i changed engin oil and plugs and wires points were new and fron pumkin had clean oil changed rear driveshaft seal and oil looked light brown but we pus some into cup and it was free of debris and looked clean. i figure if this jeep did the sierra trek is must be decently equiped.

monday wife and i are going to spokan to get a new "used hood" from a bone yard and gonna see about some 90-95 seats for front and rear. and gonna look for a place for some decent 4point harneses to mount. i was told by a 4x4 shop in olympia that seats from 1944-1995 cj and wrangler type jepes will bolt in no prob. although fold and tumbles wont be able to tumble. anyways ill let ya all know what schwab says.

I changed oil, plugs, wires ect when i got the jeep home. checked the pumkins and front fluid looked new. replaced the rear yoke seal and fluid looked milky brown. took some of it and inspected it..looked clear and no visible debris...possibly additive for the lockers?
checked gearing and it has 5.38 gears. also any idea what the shift pattern is for the over drive and the 2 4wd sticks? ther are no tags in vehicle to show what shifter position is what.

A V6, 4spd, OD, D30 swap, winch, and clear title for $1200?!?!?! Sir, you didn't buy a JEEP, you STOLE it!!!

Did we mention we like pics? :toetap:

Oddfire distributor is not "drop in," but not too hard to do, either. Lots of threads here in the forum, and some articles posted and linked in the Tech Library. Use the tabs up at the top of the page.

Well my buddy at schwab told me that my tie rod end was bad at the steering box connection and that the steering stablizer was shot...so tomorrow ill go get the stuff and replace it.
i also found out the drivers side rear brake line is broken so ill get a new tube fited and hooked up too.
he also showed me that were the front drive shaft connects with "splines" as he put it, is sloppin around and that i may need to have it rebuilt or replaced.
As for pics i will be attempting to post some pics soon once i get some taken and figure out how to post them lol.

I was Told that factory seats will bolt into this jeep from any wrangler type body made from 1944-1995...can any confirm this before i grab a set from a bone yard?

And yes i am not all that adept at "whats good and whats stock" on jeeps but i know the winch on the front "800lb ramsey worm drive" is not cheap so when the guy said "You think $1200 is fair?" i figured i couldnt go wrong.

If there is a sm420 transmission swapped in your cj.. the front/rear driveshafts would have to be resized.. when you said the front driveshaft was loose, this made me think that maybe the front shaft was not lengthened properly. I'd take the shaft out, and check for play and that its the right length. Also, when I swapped in my sm420 - I had to modify the transmission cover on the floor for it to fit.

But, sounds like you got a pretty good deal there on that CJ ! I got way more than $1200 in upgraded parts into my jeep and I dont even have a winch

i have the bestop aqua's from a YJ in mine. had to redrill 2 of the holes in the front seat frames and all new holes for the rear seat (from YJ as well). I don' know about the TJ seats, but the TJ rear is much wider than the post 76 CJ and YJ ones.

Oh and wrangler refers to the 1987 and later jeep, not the earlier ones.

It is a overdrive unit.. made by Warn or Saturn.. I cant tell which. There should be a label on it. The warn units have a gear ratio of 1:0.75 and I think some older Saturns were as low as 1:0.70
