thread cleaning

    Hello,
    I have a spiral flute tap.7/16"-14NC.Can i use it to clean the the threads on the block for the head bolts on a f-head engine?Asking before make the mistake.:?:?:?

    Not sure if the tap will work or not.... But I use a 40 caliper handgun barrel brush to clean threads.

    nice,but if i will go to buy a 40 cleaner brush the police will follow me for one year here in europe R)R)R)R)R)

    You should be OK with that tap on head bolts, since they go down into the water jackets. You'll definitely want to use some Permatex #2 on the tips of the bolts before you thread them down into the block though, or they'll weep coolant until the cows come home.

    On a blind hole, you'll want to use a bottoming tap (no taper) so that you can get the last couple of threads at the bottom of the hole.

    That tap will do just fine, and so will Permatex Aviation Sealant. ;)
