Another nice commando on ebay local to me.

looking at it there were no locking hubs. The seller had this to say "Hi,,there are no locking hubs on this modle. It has (4)wheel shift on floor...all shifting is done from within the Jeepster.."

no underside pictures so hard to tell but in one you can definitely see a front diff.
Has the same old transfer case shifter on the floor.

but has standard no center hole hubcaps on the front.

I'm guessing the front end was changed.

Jeep never made a non hub 4x4 commando correct?

It would have drive flanges bolted where the hubs go, just unbolt them and replace with locking hubs.

What Hawkes said. It has hubs. Just has drive flanges rather than lock-outs which were a dealer installed option. Not factory installed at the time.

Nothing really unusual except for the fact that most people put lock-out hubs on them these days so the ones without are few and far between.

some of the factory hubcaps had a removable center section for the locking hub to pass thru without having to buy new front hubcaps.
just an FYI if you get the Jeep and go that route.

what axle do they use up front? I have a set of hubs from a commando i wanted to use on my 2a but they use a c clip instead of a nut.

    D27 I recall, 10 spline.
to use your hubs on the early 2A, you would cut the threaded end of the axle off.
