How do pull the front and rear bearings out of a T14 transmission without damaging them? I have the service manual but where do you find one of those fancy pullers at. Is there anything else available that will do the job.

    Thanks!

I have never broken down a T14 but bearing pullers are not too expensive.

If you are going to pull the bearings I would be more worried about damaging the case.... You should replace the bearings if you are going to have them out.

    Just my .02 cents.....

I don't think that puller would work. The puller is a specialty tool, I was looking at replacing the front bearing on my T 15 and I could only find pullers from Snap on and the like.If I recall they were in excess of $100. I was going to see if a transmission shop would remove the bearing for a nominal charge.

    Mcruff,
Just how do you use the puller set up? Do you initialy expand the bearing seperator to catch the wire ring around the outside of the bearing and once the bearing is pulled far enought--get the seperator behind the bearing and pull it on off. In the manual, it shows a puller that clamps around the bearing. As you know you can't get behind the front or rear bearing as installed in the case. I appreciate any insight.

Put the puller around the shaft, just below the bearing, or near the radius thats on the corner of the bearing. Tighten the bolts up, you will start to see the bearing pull forward, once this is done, you can set the bearing separator up on blocks and use a dead blow or a large ball peen and a brass or aluminum drift and drive the shaft out of the bearing. You can also set it up in a press and push the shaft thru (preferred).

That is the problem---I can't get to the back side of the bearing. There is only 1/4 inch of the bearing sticking out from the case and to get the transmission apart---the front and rear bearing has to be pulled. Is there any other way of getting the transmission apart? What am I overlooking.

Now, I have taken these transmissions apart without a puller, but I did not remove the front bearing from the main shaft (or the rear bearing from the main shaft? Don't recall). The fit to the case is tight, but not terribly so. IIRC the factory tool fits in the snap ring groove and pulls on that. Can you get the transmission apart? If so, it should be a piece of cake to R&R the bearings with a press.

I took mine apart by tapping on the mainshaft with a rubber mallet. Tap on the rear and force the front bearing out. Once thats done use adrift to drive the front of the mainshaft toward the back until it comes out.
I've taken several of them a part and never had to use a puller to get the bearing out of the case.
