alright so i've deduced that i can swap the entire starter drive assembly over from an f-head starter to an earlier l-head starter.

my question is does anyone know what holds the main spooled wire assembly just behind the starter drive to the mainshaft in the starter? i've been looking at it and it looks like it's pressed to me. anyone able to tell me about this?

    thanks,
    evan

Not sure I'm reading this correctly, but will try. The center portion of the starter that rotates is called the armature. It consists of a shaft with coils of wire wound on it with copper bars (comutator) fixed also. The wire and copper bars are wound onto the shaft as a unit and the shaft cannot be pressed out seperately. Hope this answers your question.
