I thought my 66 CJ5 was original, though in need. I hear my year with the V6 has a 75# or 100# fly wheel, but I weighed mine on the bath scale and its 55#. Could it still be the original or was it swapped somewhere down the line?

The website that says the flywheels weigh 75 or 100lbs is wrong. Your flywheel is probably correct. My v6 was all original and had never been opened up, the flywheel was no where near 75 or 100lbs.

From all the FWs I have been through @ 55# is right for a 225. Stock 231s are about 35#.

It only feels like 75 or 100 when it falls on your toes :)

Hey there, I got the 1985 231 EF running with the orginal 225 50 pound flywheel it runs fine and seems to have lots of torque. My question is without having a machine shop balance the crank and flywheel together to achive proper overal balancing could any internal damage happen to my 231EF lower end?? Plus seeing how my 50 pound flywheel should be closer to 231 specs of 35 pounds this compounds the problem more so??
Second question I have good oil pressure on this 1985 231 with unknown kms, though the valve train does not seem to be reciving a wet supply of fresh oil. Even with the rockercover off and engine running it did not appear to be getting fresh oil, should the oil supply to the lifters not be squirting all over the valvetrain???Or has the high mileage engine had carbon and sh#4 clog up the upper oil feed gallerys?

The lifters suprisingly DON'T sound like a ticking time bomb about to explode.
    Thanks J

The Buick motors are not small block Chevy's they do not sling oil all over. There should be just a small amount of oil oozing out of the rockers and the pushrods.
The flywheel can be rebalanced, just take it to an auto machine shop and tell them what you want. They can rebalance it without all your engine parts.
