putting 10" drums on the rear

    hey to all, i know this has been talked to death but my 66 has the 9" drums F/R and i will do the 11" conversion but i would like to know if the 10" drums will fit on the 9" backing plates in the rear , i looked at the plates and drums lastnight and noticed that the 9" were about a 1/2 " smaller dia to the backing plates any help would be nice

    No, you can't put 10" drums on 9" backing plates. You have to use the entire assembly, backing plates, drums and all.

    then let me ask this is it possible to put 9" drums on 10" backing plates? because i have 10"backing plates on the jeep with 9" drums

    No - where are you measuring? The only diameter that matters is the inside diameter of the drum - the contact surface.

    Sorry if this seems rude, but that's the way the brakes are measured. There are 9", 10" and 11" brakes, and none of the parts from each mix with any of the others.

    measured the plates first the drums are 9" inside dia

    i should have asked does anybody have pics of the 9" backing plate and the 10" backing plate

    Yeah, you don't need pics - if the ID is 9", then they are 9" brakes.

    What Tims trying to tell you is you can't physically bolt a 9" drum over a 10" backing plate, it simply won't fit even if modified with a dremel or such.
    Here is a 9" brake setup.

    first i did make a mistake the brakes are what i have found to be called the late 9" setup, as i am restoring the jeep the books i use all show the 66 having 10' brakes so it was kinda confusing, i know neither will cross but jeeps are like most autos and things can be changed w/o notice to the public but thanks and im sorry if i seamed out of place about the whole post
