    Hey everyone!

Bought a CJ5 with a Dauntless 225 V6 last week and the alternator just crapped out on me. Went to O'Reilly's and they ordered a Remanufactured Ultima model 01-0170 alt, but the connections are not the same. Here is a photo below of the backs..(new on left and old on right)

Here are the connections at the Jeep...

The molex connector has two wires...the white one goes to the ballast resistor and then into the cab. I assume this is for the idiot light. The red one has two wires connected to it and both go into the cab, It appears the PO did quite a bit of splicing... The red wire with the O connector is the charging line that goes to the + terminal on the battery (it is 12 guage). I do not see an external voltage regulator so I am assuming the old alternator was internally regulated.

    My questions are..

    (1) Does the new alt look to be internally regulated?
    (2) How do I connect the new alt since it only has one spade terminal ?
    (3) What guage wire should I run from the charging post to the battery?

    My questions are

Your old alternator appears to be a GM internally regulated unit, if it were me I would stick with that type and return the new one which I believe is externally regulated.

The new alternator is a Motorola, which is correct as an OEM replacement. A PO upgraded to an internally regulated Delco alternator. Keep the Delco - ask the parts store to help you match it.
