The PO did the swap so I don't know if I need the plate between the bellhousing and the motor. I pulled the motor and had it rebuilt and I did not put a plate back in because there was not one when it came out. I can see my flywheel from the front of the jeep. Can I use a plate to just cover the flywheel or I'm I missing a spacer. Clutch seems to work fine. Grabs a little when warm. Thanks.

Okay, found out I am missing the spacer between the flywheel housing and the engine block. Is there any danger in running it this way? Is this why my clutch is grabbing? Thanks for any input.

Not sure if thats why your clutch grabbs a little but I would back track to put the spacer in.
Better to do it now then later when your flywheel is jammed with debris..

It actually takes two covers to completely enclose the flywheel. The big spacer/cover extends down near the starter and a second cover covers the drivers side of the flywheel.

Is there a danger in running it without the spacer in?

I'm not sure which spacer you mean. How thick is it?

Its the spacer between the block and the bellhousing over the clutch. I think it is pretty thin. I don't have it so I'm not sure. I also think it goes between the flyweel and block, so its not that easy to put in. I do have the lower part that covers the flywheel and that is less then 1/8 inch.

    Thanks timgr for any help!

Oh, that. It's more like a plate than a spacer. Do you have it? I can't think of anything that will break if you leave it out, but I would not leave it out. It's there for some reason. Maybe it will affect the starter alignment if it's not there.

I have the lower piece of the two plates. I would like to put it in but that is not going to be fun. Would leaving it out for a while affect my clutch? It seems to grind a little when it gets warm, going into 1st and rev. Thanks.

I would really recommend that you use the plate if for nothing else but to insure that your starter is aligned and spaced correctly. xtrm4xjp offered you both plates, I'd grab 'em.
