Here is my patern which I think is a D20.

    2H ---- 4L
    1
    1
    N ---- 4H

What is it? D18 or D20? I noticed it looks like a D18 but the shafts are set up like a D20. I have the blow ups of the parts for both and the D18 casing looks just like it. Any thoughts?

    D20:
    firewall
    4 High
    2 High
    N
    4 Low

And just to confuse the issue...
My D20 is worn, and has a "bonus" 2 Low position, like this:
    firewall
    4 High
    2 High
    N
    2 Low
    4 Low

That being said, if your transfer case is stock, I believe it should be a D18.

Ok I made a mstake on the patern of my t-case. I don't know what I was thinking. So here it is :

    Firewall
    2H
    4H
over to the right and back towards the firewall
    Now I am at 4L

Which is this. I know it is a dana. I need to get under an clean the grease and oil off of the ID tag. Sorry for the mess up.

If the rear end is offset to the right it is a D18. Straight back is a D20

What Cal said. Centered rear is a D20, offset rear is a D18.

This is what I have. I do know about the centered vs. offset. I must have been in a fog when I read this post. I was just making sure I had an 18 and not a 20 like I suspected. Thanks everyone. I will post the ID tag #'s so we can narrow down how old it is. :)

the j trucks and wagonneers also used the d18/20 and had a 'U' or 'J' shift pattern.

FYI: my current d18 is in a 20 case.
