got the 45MB the other day, got it fixed up and running. thought id check to see about 4X4. well it went in, it is loud though coming from the transfercase. but i cant get it to come out. when i disengauge it I can still see the front drive shaft turning. does not have locking hubs.

can anyone troubleshoot this for me.

also will the transfer case make that winding noise always

    thanks

The front drive shaft turns because of the lack of locking hubs that you had mentioned in the previous posts of yours.

Welcome to the world of real jeeps. As Glen said your MB has front drive hub flanges that bolt to the front hubs, the axles fit into the hub and are attached with a large nut covered by a cap. So in effect you have the front axle ready to pull when the transfer case is shifted into 4WD.(Not sure we'd want to get out to lock in the hubs while under fire) Maybe Hillary could offer more insight to that thought. If Tifton was closer to me I'd come over and help out. Saw your post on the 503. Lots of willys info out there on the CJ2A website, also Cj3B website. But you found the 503 for restow parts info and tech stuff.

This link shows the flange (#3) but in the MB it a little different.

thanks im new to this just trying to learn, so try not to get frustrated with me.

thanks for the link, arethere other diagrams on that web site.

i found a lever onder the jeep that is attached at the rear of the transfer case where the drive shat goes in there is a funny circle thing with groves around it atached to the tranny, wel this lever loks like a brake lever of some sort there is a piece of a cable attached to the lever but the cable is broke, just wondering what the lever was. i hope i gave you ok picture. would love to find diagrms of everything online.

That circle is your parking brake (you were right, it is a brake!)
If the cable is there, it runs in through the fire wall and to a T handle. It may be different on an MB though.
Try our gallery for a photo of one, should be one in there.

check the fluid level in your transfer case that may be the root of your problem

That would only be the noise, not anything to do with the brake or the lack of lockouts...

well also the fact it wont shift out of 4wd. unless it is out and he just thinks its not. As for the plugs yes the top is to fill and the bottom drain. Only fill it until it comes out of the fill hole. I would pull the fill plug first incase you drain it and find that the fill plug is seized up. Then check by sticking your pinky in there and feeling for fluid unless some pours out on you. And procede from there.

Hey, we were all new to jeeps once too, so we all know what you learn as you go. Ask any question you have, you'll get no criticism here from any of us.

Welcome to the wonderful world of jeeps.
We never stop learning about these things.
Somewhere all jeep owners cross the line between hobby and obsession.
NO one knows when, it just happens.

dont worry about being new. You have a great jeep to start with. Wish i could have found an mb. That fact it runs is even better.

Any luck on the manuals? Did the G503 guys tell you where to buy them?
