Hello all, I am having issues adjusting my new clutch. I have spent many hours searching and reading prior post. I'll give you a brief description of what the PO did and what i have done to get to this point. My CJ original came with a 4 cylinder and was swapped out with an odd fire V-6. The clutch linkage was totaly modified to work with the swapped motor. Then along I come and purchase the CJ. At this time the CJ was drivable but had clutch problems (fork or throw-out bearing was hitting the fingers on clutch cover). The pivot ball was broken (never seen or heard of that before). The bellhousing was modified to work with the clutch fork.
I decided to just replace or rebuild all the components of the clutch assemply. I replaced the bellhousing, clutch assembly and order the chain operated clutch linkage kit from Adavance Adapters. I aslo installed a 1 inch body lift on the CJ to help with the clearence between the motor and body and a draft kit on the clutch and brake pedal.
Here is were my problems start, once everything was together i went to adjust the clutch.
With the clutch up (clutch engaged) i adjust the cable, when pressing down on the pedal and trying to shift the tranny it grinds bad. I tighten the cable and the throw-out bearing is now up along the clutch assembly. I start the jeep and shift through the gear, works well.
My probelm now is that the throw-out bearing is riding and spinnning on the cluth. Well
i call my local NAPA and order different sizes of throw-out bearing. I then proceed to pull the tranny and try other sized throw-out bearings. Either i have the same problem as i started with or the bearing would be to long and not adjustable.
It seems to me that that there is not enough travel to disengage the cluth while pressing the clutch pedal down. The pedal bottoms out on the floor board.
When I added the lift and draft kit i lost approx 1 1/2 inches of travel on the clutch pedal. I was thinking of extending the pedal shaft to make up for the lost travel. By doing this mod, I would hoping to be able to loosen the clutch cable, with in turn would backoff the throwout bearing from the clutch and give the clutch enough travel for the bearing to disengage the clutch and everything would be good, (ha ha). What do you think? Do i need to start over and research cluth bearings and fork? Thanks everyone for reading and posting.

You may be able to weld extra medal to the tab that the AA chain attaches to. This would give you more travel. I've been battling a similar problem and this is what I think I will do, but I havent ordered the chain kit yet.
