I replaced my ignition last night (the little thing that you put the key in to turn in order to start the Jeep). I just used a generic replacement from FLAPS. I was surprised that it was exactly like the one I was replacing. The parts guy said that a lot of people use them for lawn mowers and for race cars. As I was installing it, I started wondering about what I could hook up to the Accessories terminal. Right now, only one wire is connected. When I turn the key to ACC, the gauge cluster activates (well, gas gauge and volts). Everything else on the Jeep is pretty much direct wired, meaning that even without the key, you can flip any switch on the dash and whatever it is will come on. I've always hated that, but it was simple to wire. Can I attached for instance, the aux electric radiator fan to the ACC or perhaps the heater fan or the head light switch? Basically, what I'm asking is how much can I route though the ignition before it becomes dangerous?

Short answer: Whatever load the switch is rated for. You'd have to add up the amp draw of all the stuff that draws power through the switch and allow a small amount "extra" for safety.

Not your headlight sw for sure. Draws too many amps. Unless of course you have installed an aux relay to remove heavy load. If ign sw goes south while driving at night, you still want headlights. NO?
