Hey guys I have a 1977 jeep cj5 with a 258 engine. On my exhaust manifold where the exhaust pipe hooks up, there is a chunk out of the little cup that the exhaust pipe hooks onto. Can you weld that back up or should i just get a new one??

Pretty sure what you mean ... pictures would be better.

It can be welded if you can find a good pro welder that will use nickel rod. There may be other options in rod etc - you need a pro to weld it though. Probably will be expensive.

I'd look for a used replacement manifold. Any used exhaust manifold from a Pre-1981 AMC inline 6 should work, if you can find one. You can also use the 81-on style manifolds, but you'll need both the intake and the exhaust. Plus they only come in 2V variety, which means a carb swap unless you use an inverted 1V-2V adapter.

clerihew82, I read your post last night and today I was surfing jeep parts places and came across this for a new manifold for $99. Why pay for a welder to fix something when for maybe a couple of bucks you can get a new part?

Heck...I gotta' 258 stock Exhaust Manifold off an old '79 engine. You can HAVE for free. (Pay shipping and it's yours!). Hell, I'll even sandblast it and make it look pretty for you! :)

Lemme' know. Not trying or wanting to make any $$$ off it. Just offering it up to a fellow Jeeper.

Email me directly at greg@rnfilms.com (I can email you pics if you'd like).

If not, no biggie, just an offer.

I'm in Toledo, Ohio (43616) by the way.
