I have a 58 cj5 with the f134 and it has a Carter yf on it. The jeep sat for 20+ years and the yf was rebuilt 6 years ago by a carb shop. The jeep runs great (on flat ground) is seams to leak gas off road on inclines and yes I have ajusted the float (many times). I ordered a solex carb yesterday, is there anything I need to know when installing it ? Is it a direct changed out from the yf? Was this a good decision? Any input would help.

I dont have any experience with the solex units so other members will have to comment on those, I would not get rid of your old carter, Keep it on hand. It could just be a dried out gasket between the body and cover or the little one that goes around the pump link.
I have not had any trouble with mine leaking fuel on steep grades or rough ground.
Do you know where exactly its leaking?

You made the right move. My Solex installed right out of the box with no adjustment necessary.

The other possibility for the intermittent flooding is that when it was overhauled the mechanic may have inadvertently installed the wrong needle and seat, The correct one will have a .076 diameter seat orfice and the needle will have a little spring and a pin that rests on the float tang.

I am sure the solex will run good for you, lots of members run them. I like the old carters myself, The very early S,C and SA models had a few issues with steep slopes but the 938SD and converted earlier models do well.

Dont throw your old carter away unless you throw it at me :D

Thanks for the input. After looking at the float again, the spring that your talking about is not present! could be the reason for my flooding problem. I am not planing on gettin rid of the Carter but if I do I will keep you in mine. Thanks again.

Plenty of us have been in the same boat. You should have little to no issue with the Solex.
