transmission ID

    How can I identify a transmission that came out of a 1971 V6 CJ5?

    by year make model engine.....T14
    synchronized in all forward gears
    might still be a tag under one of the top cover bolts....if not, remove top cover and check for 3 brass symchro rings.

    if PO installed something else ????

    Look for some numbers cast into the trans body. As Jim said, factory trans in '71 with the V6 was a T14...
    You should find numbers like this:

    13 02 xxxx

    1302 indicates a T14 trans.
