Has any one used the PERTEX HEI system on their 225 odd fire? From what I'm told you use your dist. take out points and cond. and screw in the set up and get there coil. The idea that I like here is you can always go back if your in the middle of no where and it craps out on you.
What are your thoughts? Thanks Chris.

The Pertronix? Yes, many of us here have used it. I'm very happy with mine. If you use the search function here, you will find lots of info/ threads on this.

That would be it all I got from friend was scribbles hard to decipher. I tried searches with what I had, I'll try it with pertronix. Thanks much. Chris:)

I ordered one on Friday. It should be here mid next week, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Just a clarification, a Pertronix unit is NOT an HEI, it's simply a trigger mechanism that replaces the points in a conventional distributor.

They work GREAT! No moving parts to wear, and no point wear from pitting. Very happy with mine!

It's a shame they don't make em for the Prestolite distributors.

I wonder why? Were the Prestolite distributors a limited run, or is the housing really small and difficult to fit the kit into?

The body is cast iron and small in diameter.

Just an update. My Pertronix arrived today! It was a very quick simple installation and I cannot believe what an incredible difference it makes. The Jeep starts up very quickly, Idles very smooth and accelerates very smooth and quicker that before with the points.

I'm certain points are very good, but I never mastered getting them set just right. This was very easy and its like a brand new jeep. I highly recommend the upgrade.

Just wondering how I tell what distributor I have. Mine has the little slideing door on the front of the cap, and has a large style rotor, vs the small old ford style. Can anyone tell me if this is one that I can get a pertonix for

You have a Delco, and yes, you can get a Pertronix for it...

Not off the top of my head; the box is out in the garage. Just go to Summit's website and search for it...

The part number they sent me was #1165 and Flame Thrower Coil #40511, which they told me to use without the resisor.

They do for the 4 cylinders. I thought the V-6's were buicks, which if memory serves right are all the delco with the window. Not having access:) to one with a V6 in it I don't know.

:v6: distributors come in two flavors, Prestolite and Delco. They don't make a Pertronix for a :v6: Prestolite. Since this thread is about a :v6: I'd have to assume that was what was meant. :)
