I just picked up a 79 CJ5. The ignition module is shot. It looks to be a Motorcraft part. Does anyone now if NAPA carries this part? If I was to go with a D.U.I. distributer does that illiminate the need for the MotorCraft module?

DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) is a GM HEI AFAIK. The ignition module and coil are inside the distributor. So, no, you would not need the existing module.

You can use a GM HEI module with the Motorcraft distributor if you are willing to mount the module outside the distributor. The GM HEI modules are cheap, and considered more reliable than the Duraspark modules. Google "duraspark hei module" and you'll find lots of links.

Yes, the Duraspark module can be bought from any decent parts store.

I have a DUI and love it! I had too many problems with the ignition module overheating and my jeep dying while driving down the road. I started carrying a spare and I would switch them out when one got hot. I believe NAPA sold them for around $20.
