After a long time, I've finally finished my front axle. A big thanks to TxJake for selling me the 11" drums and backing plates, and throwing in the button head cap bolts for the spindle stud mod. Now the rear axle needs the same thing done to it.

    Beautiful!
Do you have any more pics of the process?
What paint it that you used?

you're gonna love the 11" brakes. I'll give you the same warning these guys gave me... make sure you got a good set of seatbelts or a padded headband, because they work great!

Dumb question, but are they actually 11" in diameter?

I stripped down a 70 CJ5 a while back, but haven't measured the drums and backing plates on the D27 or D44.

Indeed, be careful, my axles are from a 70 CJ and it's 10" brakes, I see no reason to change them as I have only a 2A and they work well, but still.

My '71 CJ5 came with 10x2 brakes (as did the '70 model year referenced above)
I upgraded to 11" drums... the difference was night and day. :)
Then I drilled the 11s... another quantum leap... excellent braking, dry and wet...!!!!!!!!!!

11" drums are great if you're running big, heavy tires on steel wheels... say a 33x12.50 or bigger

I'd sure put some wheel cylinders in there, then they'll really grab. J/K nice looking setup.
