AMC 304 heads won't come off

hey everyone,

i've pulled many a head off a motor and have never seen this before. i'm working on a '72 CJ5 with the 304. I've got all 12 head bolts out, pulled everything off the head, and can't seem to get the head off of the block.

i've tapped on it with hammers, pried on it, and tugged as hard as i can. it just doesn't seem to budge.

is there something really stupid that i'm missing here? anyone had this problem before?

14 bolts in each head, you missed 2. There are 5 outside the valve cover, 9 in. 1 at each end of the head under the valve cover, easy to miss if there is any sludge up there.
