SM420 shifter

    Iv been working on my old SM420 and I was just wondering how you get those roll pins out of the shifter tower.

    Has anyone ever taken apart an SM420 shifter?

    Twist the cap and slide it up and off,
    and then the shifter will pull up and out,
    then you can get to the pins if needed.

    Dont you have to take the pins out to get the shifter to pull out?

    No. Just push down real hard on the tin cap thingie and twist to the left, counter-clockwise & then let go. The spring under the thingie pushes it up...then pull out the whole shift lever, roots and all. The roll pins are on the left and right side of the tower and hold it all down into the top of the tranny.

    ....And it needs to be in neutral or its somewhat harder to pull out.

    I thought the same thing when I got my SM465. The above answer is correct, don't mess with the pins, someone broke one of mine and welded in a bolt.

    Thanks for your help guys. Got it all back together and got it shifting smooth. If I wanted to sell this SM420 as a rebuild what would it be worth?
