water pump rebuild kit

hey everyone,

i need to get a waterpump for my L-head. a new water pump is around $50. I have a pile of old waterpumps for l-heads. I was thinking about rebuilding one of them to use, since the kit from Krage is only $14.

Does anyone know if it's worth it to rebuild one of these with the kit, or should i fork over the dough for a new waterpump?

Is your time to re-build it worth $36? I'd spend the $50 and call it good. Actually I go out of my way to not buy Reman parts. Although that's probably not possible with an older engine.

 

Rebuilding it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes from what I can tell. Not to mention I believe the new waterpump for the L/F heads is reman.

What I'm wondering is how the rebuild kit would hold up against a reman pump?

 

I'd be concerned about the condidtion of the impeller shaft bushing. I don't think a kit will have that part and when it gets worn the seal will start to leak.
