Check the PDF document in this thread:
    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28444

That should tell you what year it is.

Looks like it was built in June of 1970. Could be that it wasn't sold until after Sept. '70 and thus was titled as a '71. Not uncommon to happen with these vehicles.

My old '71 was built in Nov 1970, as a '71 model year. The S/n was 369xxx.
Yours is 365xxx, so I'd guess yours is a '71 model built somewhere in the Sept/Oct 1970 time frame.

We have a list of s/ns on this site somewhere, you should be able to find one closer to yours to pin down the date. So yours was originally purple??????????

EDIT::Hmmm, '71s never had a V8... sounds like maybe you have a VIN swap... or a V8 swap...
    Got pics of your rig?

Am I not reading the document correctly then Lynn? It looks to me to be made in June or July of '70.

    *edit* The V8 isn't original.

Do the frame numbers agree with the tub tag?

    Post some pictures.

The V8 is not original if it was built in 1970. Usually titles are issued based on model year, not calender year. Sept/Oct '70 is in the '71 model year.

Did you check the VIN document as I suggested? It has illustrations where to find the tags and numbers on the tub and frame, etc.

Hmm, purple, white stripe on the hood, short front fenders, built in 1970. Dare I utter "Renegade I"?

Nothing conclusive yet, it could be a paint job and stickers. Is the paint under the dash purple? I mean, you're positive that it's originally purple?

Looks original-ish to me. Too bad the paint is failing so badly though.

Which engine do you have? It would be good to post some more pictures in larger format, including under the hood.

no. i'm not 100%, but pretty convinced. there's purple everywhere. it's,under and on the backside of the dash, under the hood, in the engine compartment. it sure looks like factory paint. i see no indications of it not being. the sickers have purple accents within the logo and on the edges like they were made for going on a purple jeep.

That answers what I was asking then if it's on the backside of the dash. Usually that's the one spot that the original color remains.

Looks like a Renegade I in that case. What engine is in it currently? You said a V8, what make of V8?

So you don't know what engine it is? Looks like a Buick (300, 340, or 350) to me, though I'm not the ultimate authority about the Buicks. The Buick V8 is a really easy swap to these. The Buick requires changing/modifying the grille, and yours has been replaced or modified.

no. i'm not sure. i will have to get my father to take a look at it to see what it is. all i know is that the block says 350, but not sure what make.
i think you guys have established that it's a 1971 model, the purple is a good possibility, and the engine has been replaced, possibly a Buick. that's more information that i was even expecting. i really appreciate everyone's help.
one more thing. if it's original purple, and i plan on refurbishing it, would be better if i went back with that color. or does it matter for resale? thanks again!!
