Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard of putting an old flathead 6 in a CJ, or is it just to long.

I do remember someone putting some kind of FH 6 in a CJ, an industrial engine???

Those old suckers just seemed to lug and pull over anything!!!

I've seen it done, but it's LONG and obviously requires modifications to the firewall.

    I've seen a Hudson I6 in a 2A before as well.

A V6 is a MUCH better fit if you want a six cylinder.

IIRC some Studebakers used the T-90, and don't require an adapter - so some of these ended up in Jeeps. They came in both flathead and ohv. This is really old school though ... from back when wrecked Studebakers were common. Any inline 6 requires a big firewall notch, so much that part of the head is under the cowl. Don't know about the Hudson, except that the Hudson 6s were powerhouses in their day.

V6s are sooo much easier... but of course not commonly available until fairly modern times.

<edit> Also, realize that these old engines may have made a lot of torque, but old engines are also anchor heavy. Casting technology has improved a lot since then, so modern engines are much lighter than these old flatheads. Long stroke engines (undersquare, with lots of torque) are also said to be fuel inefficient, and modern engines tend to be square or oversquare. The torque peak is pushed upward (in RPM) compared to the old undersquare designs.

Hmm, might have been a Studebaker but I'm thinking it was a Hudson. It's been a few years.

Thanks for the replys, I am not going to do this, just gots ta know. and I agree the V6 is definitely the way to go whether 225, 231 or others! Around here we call those FH 6's boat anchors!
