Here is the latest on lifter issues on my Jeep.
I recieved nine new roller lifters from the vendor to replace the ones that were making noise. I installed them with high hopes and was throughly disappointed upon start up, same problems. I ran it for a while to see if it would quiet down but it started to run poorly so I decided to pull the intake again (I am real good at this by now).
Intake lifter on #4 cylinder is about 1/2" lower than all the others! Not good.
I pull the cam out and the lobe is shot and the lifter has broken the roller off of the body, the cam was riding on the groove of the lifter.
The lifter bore is good so I replace the new (now bad) cam with the stocker that came with the motor, reassemble everything and start it up.
It runs with only one lifter makeing noise, quick adjustment and I am good to go!
I must add that the vendor of the lifters was great, he sent new lifters with just a request to send the replaced ones back (still need to do this). If anyone wants his email I will get it to you. ]
Maybe now I can get to the desert for Presidents day.

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT!

    WOW what a headache!

That is how it is with an old vehicle though- I kept a couple of spare Buick V-6s around for parts until I got one that ran good. ( which will not be forever).

There is noting like spare axles, tubs, engines--- that is IF you have a place to keep them.

Otherwise once in a while you have to go through an ordeal to keep the old vehicle alive.
