Is there anywhere to buy a kit ? are there any existing that are worth modifying (like a stock CJ bar)?

I've got 2, a M38 and a CJ2 full cages. They look like they were built using a CJ5 rear bar with a front hoop and spreaders added.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. I already had the rear bar. I bought a front hoop and spreader kit for a CJ5 and am in the process of modifying it.

Is the CJ bar wider ?I would like to see pictures of the install, what modifications are needed and how close the front hoop fits the windshield.

    Thanks!

I have the cj5 bar in mine. We had to put ratchet straps on it to get it out of the '5 and I had to put them on again to get it in my '3a. I'm guessing that they are at least very close to the same width.

Same width, I have a late CJ5 bar in my '2A with no issues. I did choose to remove the stock top bow pockets from the tops of the rear wheelhouses, but that was purely my choice.

The hoop kit I bought was shippable. The hoop is split in 2 pieces. They give you a piece that slides in so the 2 can be welded together. I had to shorten it and cut down the width. The spreaders you then cut to fit.

Just a clarification: The front hoop for a flatfender will be narrower than a CJ5 because the tub narrows in the front legwell areas. The rear hoop width is identical for both models. The "ratchet strap method" is used with both tub types since the bottom mounts of the rear hoop assembly fit up under the lip of the rear quarter panels. HTH ;)
