Well here is my problem, I have a good overall jeep (1959), 327 chev motor, stock axles, putting in turbo350 trans, I was thinking of putting waggy diffs under it (that I have) and do a spring over with yj springs, but I'm also thinking of keeping it a little more stock. The question I have is what amount of lift and what size tires will keep it reliable with the axles that are in it D25 and D44. I do have a front axle from a 79 cj7 that I can use if that is a little better. Or is there up grades of the stock axles that would work. Or sould I just go with the waggies D44's. Any fead back would be great!

My take on it, 33" tires stock axles w/ a 2" lift are safe, the Dana 30 is a nice upgrade, little stronger axle, better turning radius. Plenty of discussion here on it in the past.

Max tire size will depend on your skinny pedal usage and the types of trails you run.

For me, the max on the 25/27 is 31" tires - mostly due to the trails I run that require a little HP to get up over some things. I know several are fine with 33s, but I would keep the foot print small (narrow) with that.

With the v8 under the hood, and the trails have alot of mud hole and stumps to bump over, the skinny pendel gets used quiet a bit!

I would say the next question then is what size tire you're wantin to run. I would say the Waggy 44's would serve you well up to around 38's if you're wanting to go that big. Run em til the front starts breakin, then upgrade to chromolly in the front. If you're wanting to stay around 33's or 35's, I would to with about 2-1/2" lift, or maybe 4". I like to keep the lift as low as I can, and trim the fenders if I need just a little more clearance. Just depends on what size you want to go with.

I would like to go with 33", maybe 35" tires and 12.5 wide. I was thinking of sticking around the 31" tire, but everything running on the trails have atleast a 33" tire on it around here.

I think I would run abut 2-3" of lift with 31-32" tires, you have more room for the axle to flex without chopping up the tub and save the drivetrain with less mass spinning. I would also add the 11" brakes at the least to help stop the larger tires.

Is there anything I can do to the stock axles to help from breakage!

What kind of breakage are you worried about?

The only issues I've seen are the spindles pulling away from the knuckle. There's always the knuckle stud upgrade for that. Plenty of discussion here in the past.

For the rear axle a flanged or full-float conversion are options.

OK I got a little side track with wedding plans, I would like to run 33x10.5 tires and would like to keep the stock axle width, and don't have the skill to narrow the waggy D44's, and to spend the money for someone else to do it is not a option(say's the soon to be wife) so what I would like to know is if I swap in the front axle from a 79 cj7 (D30 I think), and keep the stock rear D44 will everything hold together. Or is there a one piece axle kit for the rear that can be bought for a good price, or it that all just a waist of time.

IMHO I'd slap the tires on and wheel it while building the D30. D44 should hold up, if it's generally in good shape.

It's what I ran, no problems. I just upgraded to a flanged 44 since someone left it in my driveway for me. :D

Flanged: Hub is part of the axle shaft.
Two piece: Hub is fitted with a key and nut on the end.
