OK, so I'm goin to install my caster shims (thanks Mcgruff) tomorrow since the weather is going to be warmer...38 deg. woohoo a frickin heat wave. Anyway I was wondering if there is anything I should be expecting. It seems to be pretty straight forward but was just checkin to see if anyone had installed 'em before and run into any problems. Did you weld 'em in (just some tacks) or do they stay put even after wheelin. I would think they'd stay because of the centering bolt. Just wonderin. Thanks guys. Oh yeah, for positive caster I lean the top ball joint toward the rear 1 o' clock or so ( not that much but that direction), correct.

New U-bolts were the only thing I did when I installed mine. They stay in place just fine. If they move then your centering pin is broke I'd guess. ;)

Any time I remove the U-bolts I replace 'em.

just make sure you have enough head on the center bolt after shim install to align into the hole on the axle housing.
The tall headed center bolts are getting harder to find, at least around here anymore.

I noticed the same thing when we put firefighter mikes shims in his front a few months back.

    Good luck with the shims!!

I made my own shims...but what I did was made the hole for the center pin just big enough for the threaded part to go through (same size as the hole in the leaves). I recessed the hole so it was level... Then I bought new center pins and bolted the shim on to the leaves...that way you have basically the same amount of pin sticking out as you had before the shims.
Hope that made sense...I'm in a hurry.
